Enjoy Outdoor Ice Skating in London   by London Pass

Some of the most famous London attractions come alive during the festive period, with visitors to the capital being able to enjoy a variety of events that are bound to get them into the Christmas spirit.

One such activity has to be heading to some of the impressive outdoor ice rinks put up during the holiday season, which lets visitors wrap up warm and skate around the city illuminated with colourful Christmas lights.

This month, ice rinks will pop at some of most unlikely of places, giving a unique twist on a normal sight-seeing experience of the capital.

Holidaymakers heading towards the National History Museum, for example, can slip and slide around this beautiful landmark in South Kensington, while the otherwise sombre business centre of Canary Wharf is also set to embrace festive charm.

Later this week (November 5th 2010), the National History Museum Ice Rink, dubbed as "London's most spectacular winter attraction" will open.

The outdoor skating venue will be put up outside the grand building, with a junior rink constructed for younger skaters.
There are likely to be many experienced skaters who will turn up and whiz around the rink, but even for those who are not confident on the ice, it remains a fun day out for all the family.

Ice marshals will be available around the rink to help those with legs like Bambi and to give guidance.

Or for parents who prefer to see their children wrapped up in hats, gloves and scarves sliding on the snow-white structure instead of themselves, there is a cafe where they can enjoy the views from an open-air balcony while sipping on warm hot chocolate.

The rink will remain open until January 5th 2011 and tickets are available from £13.

Though most people associate Canary Wharf with being the business capital of the city, commuters show that they can have fun too by putting on a pair of skates between November 13th 2010 and February 20th 2011 at the Canary Wharf Ice Rink.

It is the sixth year that the rink has been located in Canada Square Park, which has the unique attraction of being surrounded by the Wharf's famous towers.

The skating park will be open throughout the week and as well as proving a popular spot for office Christmas parties, families and visitors to the city also choose the rink as a good place to break up sightseeing excursions during a trip to the capital.

There is the opportunity to perfect ice skating skills with lessons put on between 12:00 and 13:00 GMT from Mondays to Fridays and all day on the weekends, with places costing £15 for a 30-minute session.
Skaters will be able to learn from an NISA qualified instructors in groups of a maximum of 15 people.

For those who want to experience ice skating with a regal twist, there is the opportunity to show off those sliding skills at Hampton Court Palace.

Opening on November 27th, the Ice At The Palace rink is one of the most impressive, with visitors being able to skate throughout the day and into the moonlight outside the grand red-bricked venue.

Families can choose to skate as late as 22:00 GMT until January 10th 2011, which will give them excellent sights of Henry VIII's famous abode sparkling with Christmas lights.

Those who are uncertain of their skating abilities can opt to have an ice guide escort them and their group around on the rink at a cost of £30 per hour.

Tickets to skate around the rink at Hampton Court otherwise start from £7.50 for children under the age of 16 and £10 for adults.

Visitors to the capital during the festive season are likely to be swept away with the number of London attractions to see.

But to really experience the chill of the capital's Christmas wind, or listen to the backdrop of carols that once echoed through its cobbled streets, a visit to one of its many outdoor ice rinks is a must.

Watching the family dance effortlessly around the sheet of white with smiles on their rosy cheeks is one of the best Things to do in London this Winter.
